The No. 32 Pomona-ɬ﷬ men’s golf team picked up a crucial victory on April 6 at the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) 2, led by a first-place individual finish from Nilay Naik PO’28.

The Sagehens returned to Claremont with a conference-level title, their first team crown in two years. This resounding win came in dominant fashion—with a ten-stroke margin separating the Sagehens and No. 29 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS). They also took down No. 13 Redlands, No. 30 La Verne, and No. 23 Cal Lutheran along the way. The Sagehens are beginning to peak right on the brink of the ultimate SCIAC event, which will decide their fate at nationals.

ɬ﷬ alum and Claremont Graduate University student Max Rockrohr ’24 and John Kim PO’26, both team captains, provided the upperclass fire down the stretch for the Sagehens. Pomona-ɬ﷬ walked up to the 14th tee in a tight match with CMS. Rockrohr and Kim notched seven birdies collectively in the final five holes. They rose while CMS faltered, going +3 as a team during that stretch. Rockrohr and Kim landed at T8 and T10 individually, respectively.

Naik again led the way for the Sagehens individually. After just 27 holes, the tournament was all but decided—Naik led by six strokes at 7-under par. His first-round 67 was capped by an incredible finish—6 under in the last 6 holes, with eagles on 14 and the last. He came out firing on April 6 and turned in 34. He would add another eagle coming in to cement his second collegiate victory.

ɬ﷬’s Rhen Lee ’25 and Alexander Oh PO’27 also performed like clockwork during the conference. Lee fired a +2 74 on April 5 for Pomona-ɬ﷬’s second-best round of the day. Oh notched 12 pars, 3 birdies, and 3 bogies on his way to an even-par 72. Both players had top 15 finishes.

Up Next: The Sagehens will compete at the SCIAC Championship on April 27–29 at the Costa Mesa Country Club.
