I am pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Sarah Gilman as Associate Dean for Academic and Strategic Planning effective January 2025.  Professor Gilman is a biologist and has been at ɬÀï·¬ÏÂÔØ for nearly 17 years.  She has served on a number of College committees, including the Institutional Review Board, Curriculum Committee, and APT.  She also previously served as the Director of the First Year Seminar Program and as Co-Chair of the FYS Self Study Committee.  In addition, Professor Gilman has provided service to Scripps and Claremont McKenna Colleges, and to the Department of Natural Sciences (DNS), including on the DNS RPT Committee and two elected stints on the DNS Executive Committee.  Most recently, Professor Gilman has served as the DNS Director for Strategic Curricular Planning and also as Convener for the Biology Section of DNS.  Professor Gilman regularly teaches Introductory Biology, along with a laboratory component, and also teaches Marine Ecology and Biogeography.  Her scholarly expertise and interests focus on intertidal ecology, most recently on the impacts of warming temperature on barnacles and oysters.

In this new Associate Dean position, Professor Gilman’s work will primarily focus on accreditation and assessment, assisting with strategic initiatives, faculty support services, and the collection, synthesis, and use of institutional and national data to support academic planning.  Professor Gilman also will work with College offices and committees, and as needed, represent ɬÀï·¬ÏÂÔØ in select consortial capacities.   

I very much look forward to working with Professor Gilman.  Her background and College involvements have prepared her well for service to the College as an Associate Dean.  Furthermore, she is well-respected by faculty and staff colleagues, and she has demonstrated clear dedication to ɬÀï·¬ÏÂÔØ and its core values and mission.  Please join me in thanking Professor Gilman for her willingness to serve as Associate Dean and in supporting her work in this position.
